Summer of Yes

This was the Summer of Yes. You might have noticed by my instagram hashtags ūüôā The Summer of Yes was all about taking a break from the norm. Alaina, Cecilia, and I wanted to shake things up a bit and switch up our routine. Yes, we worked most of the summer but we wanted to make the best of it. Summer’s kinda over tomorrow, so I’m here to report on the Summer of Yes activities.

Here we are, on the last day of school. What an amazing group of educators.

We kicked things off with a wedding in Minnesota. Congrats Erica and Ryan!img_8257

Minneapolis requires a trip to the Mall of America. img_8230-1

And immediately off on our Euro adventure. Monday, July 3rd involved flying from Minneapolis-LA-London. 24 hours in London meant we had to go back to where Brent proposed to me. I got a good one!img_8296

Then it was off to Munich. We got to see Ana, my best friend from growing up in Germany. Here we are after our 15K hike in the foothills of the alps. img_8358-1

I am obsessed with Paris. The food. The wine. Here we are after one of our 3+ hour meals. img_8419-1

And after our food tour of Montmartre with John-Paul, who at this point is a family friend. Jackie and Alex met us in Paris for a few days.

I came back from Paris determined to learn how to bake bread. Still working on it.

Being back in LA also meant time for more trail running. Something about being up in the mountains. Ahh, it’s great for the soul.

And time for exploring new neighborhoods. Gotta love the Arts District.  IMG_8440

And the meatballs at Jon+Vinny’s in Mid-City.

I went to the top of the Wilshire Grand.

Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 9.15.49 PM.pngEven drove to Long Beach for my favorite latte.

But the Westside is my fav…

Did I mention we moved up the street? Yeah, Brent wins 1000 brownie points for secretly moving us in while I was in the bay for work.

Work took us to Bestia. Bone marrow and spinach gnocchi. Drooool.

Ellen and I took advantage of Classpass and went boxing!

I went kayaking in the Marina with the captain.Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 9.17.03 PM.png

More mountain time with Meredith who came to visit from NY last week.

Playa Provisions now rents bikes!IMG_8577

I’m working on building a garden in this patio. Purple jalapenos, meyer lemons, and succulents. Working on building my desert oasis.

And the perfect end to summer. Beach walk with Ellen, Cecilia, and Alaina. IMG_8272.JPG

Cheers to the 2017-2018 school year. Let’s let the good times roll.

Ten Photos

Ahh! October ūüôā Most educators cringe when you say October, but I’ve been ready for it.¬†Ever since we got back from Paris it’s been GO GO GO.¬†Moving apartments, moving school sites, a public hearing for our permanent facility, the LAUSD Oversight Visit, neighborhood council meetings, challenging scholars, Back to School Night, doubling the number of staff and students…I could go on.¬†It’s been a lot and I am excited for things to calm down a bit. This week I only have one¬†after-school¬†event! And tomorrow we have a training¬†day so I don’t have to be at work until 7:00 am. What a treat! Hoping the chart below is inaccurate for the rest of 2016-2017 school year.

On to 10¬†highlights from¬†the past two weeks…

  1. I finally did it. I finally bought magnets and super glue and made these out of some of my race medals.

2. Yesterday I went to yoga after a long hiatus. It was good for the soul.FullSizeRender_1.jpg

3. I babysat Carly last weekend while Alaina was in San Diego. She’s a fun cuddle buddy.¬†

4. After the LAUSD oversight visit it was picture day at EQ3. Here are our Mount Saint Mary’s cuties practicing their¬†smiles.

5. Work meetings are more fun with pastries and snobby coffee from The Alchemist.
6. Thanks for the free Blue Apron, Alaina. The eggplant pita was my fav! Unlike other bloggers out there, I’m not paid to say that.¬†
7. There’s nothing like sister time. Yesterday Marta and I hung out at the beach and had margaritas and fish tacos from Provisions after. Seriously though these fish tacos. I’ve had them twice in the last two weeks. The crunch. The slaw. The aioli. Droool.

8. Last weekend Anna was visiting from San Fran, so Ellen, Anna, and I went to the Abbott Kinney Festival. Happy to report I got enough larabars to last me a week, got some new bamboo shades from Spruce. Fun fact that I didn’t know it at the time… Brent used to work with the guy who started the business. I also took a creepy stalker picture of Bruce Willis while we were at Erewhon. Gotta get your acai¬†bowl. Top left if you want to zoom in.¬†IMG_5413.JPG¬†9. My job is so random. A few days back I was called to remove a bee from a classroom.¬†FullSizeRender.jpg

1o. Anything for my EQ3 staff and kiddos. I mean, who doesn’t want to work hard for first graders¬†like Rodney.¬†IMG_5395.JPG

Holiday Happenings

It’s the greatest time of the year. December has been filled with so much fun. We took our kindergarteners to Loyola Marymount University to give them their first taste of college. Running around the lawn was the best part.¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†I do my best thinking while I’m running. Last week during our 12 mile weekend run Ellen and I talked about what we were getting our colleagues. I went with bento boxes filled with candies.

I’m proud of myself for having the patience and disciple to bake 5 dozen cookies on Monday¬†night. It took over 3 hours. Brent pointed out I could have run a marathon in the time I took to bake cookies. I’m not as intense as Alaina. She prepped the dough and made closer to 10 dozen. They were a hit at school.

Tuesday morning school was cancelled due to a bomb threat. We had to call parents and send students home, THEN the garage to our parking decided to stop working. Dynamic duo saved the day.

It was Spirit Week at school. Check out these cuties on Career Day.

And workout Wednesday. I rocked the Boston jacket. Don’t get much use out of it.

Alaina dressed up as a chef for career day, and cooked me the BEST lunch. Brown rice noodles, napa cabbage, green onions, avocado and sweet chili dressing.

And this is our awesome parent committee president.
This week we had a bomb threat, a lockdown on Thursday morning, and a fire drill on Friday. We’re safe with Ms. Pariano and the fanny pack.

Oh, we also lost power this week. It’s been a strange week. Finishing the movie tomorrow.

We celebrated the start of winter break with some Playa Provisions cocktails.

Did some intervals on Ballona Creek.Screen Shot 2015-12-19 at 4.36.57 PM

And I can’t believe I ACTUALLY LIKED STAR WARS! I haven’t seen the other movies, but Brent and Jared gave me the 30 minute summary on the way over to Universal Studios this morning. We went to the 9AM 3D IMAX movie. Brent loves chicken tenders and popcorn for breakfast ūüôā

And we’re off to Malibu for holiday party 3 of the week. Then it’s Texas, Oklahoma, and Cancun!
